UIC's University Hall, a not-so-ivory tower, looking ominous, shrouded in fog. How could I not be reminded of Kafka's The Castle? Fortunately, Nancy in the English Department was able, with one phone call, to do what numerous e-mails and calls to various UIC offices could not do: get the university to acknowledge that due to a bureaucratic error my tuition waiver had not been processed. It was a relief, but I won't rest well until the funds are applied to my account.
