Was Bush Wired for the Debate?
Who knew that the rules governing the presedential debates allowed for electronic earpieces and offstage promptings? Sadly, this latest rumor is probably true and, even more disheartening, it's not even surprising. Everybody knows (as Leonard Cohen sings) that we've got an animatronic president with a history of lying and cheating.

After the Dan Rather debacle, I suppose that the mainstream press is even more wary than usual of reporting on a news item that could prove to be a hoax. Nonetheless, at least David Letterman has been cracking jokes about the rumor, which suggests that the item has been circulating widely. Whether American voters will disregard the substantiated accounts of Bush's lying and cheating remains to be seen.
